Goose Island, Chicago, Illinois
The island and the project are endemic to the city of Chicago. Not only does the project depend on the city for its physical needs, but also, it is from there that it draws its culture and life. To cut the project off from the city is to rob its true potential and identity. This relationship is reflected in this project.
The island also has its own history that is connected to the city; this connection can also be extended to the people. The people of the island and the project are not truly Islanders themselves, for they will forever be connected to the mainland. The project aims was to encompass these ideas and sentiments into a cohesive structure which will inspire joy and wholeheartedness to its residents and visitors. Embracing the humble residential and industrial history of goose island and reflecting the ‘Wholehearted’ ideal throughout its planned elements. These ideals should be seen and most importantly felt throughout the complex, from the materials to the largest of spaces. When people come to this island hearth, their heart should be motivated to be whole.
